Blogging the Art-Full Life

I love my blog, I really do, but there are millions of other bloggers out there and some of them are just crazy-good.  Today's Art-Full Life spotlight is on three of my favorite blogs.

I have been thinking of making this a monthly feature so let me know what you think!

StyleLikeU is an incredible site for anyone who loves fashion and closet voyeurism (and by that I mean spying in people's closets).  Sometimes weird, sometimes inspiring and always interesting, everyone featured on this site has one thing in common - they are living an art-full life.

My new "must check every day" blog is Domestic Sluttery the "Home and Lifestyle Blog for Women Who Have Better Things To Do." They cover everything - fashion, interior design, cooking, shopping and they do it with humor and the pefect amount of girliness.  They are what my site would like to grow up to be!

Finally, a local blog has caught my attention - and completely frustrated me all at the same time lol. I am including it with the hopes that one of my South Florida friends will help me on my quest.

Tile Fort Lauderdale, run by one Mary Tiler More (so cute!),  is a perfect example of the Art-Full Life.  The artist paints tiles and hides them around Fort Lauderdale giving hints to their locations. Thus far I haven't been able to find any so I am hoping maybe one of you can!

It is no secret that I LOVE the Golden Girls. They are on my list with Arrested Development and 30 Rock as some of the greatest comedy shows of all time so you can imagine my excitement about the upcoming episode of SNL hosted by the incomparable Betty White!

Hipster Style

It began with a web site http://www.unhappyhipster.com/ where interior design photos from Dwell, NY Times and other publications are posted with funny captions.  I passed it along to friends and someone commented that in all actuality myself and my husband were hipsters!

It got me thinking: what exactly defines a hipster?

"Hipster is a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s, and was revived in the 1990s and 2000s often to describe types of young, recently-settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture, particularly alternative music, independent rock ..."- Wikipedia

Of course, Urban Dictionary says a Hipster:
"Listens to bands that you have never heard of. Has hairstyle that can only be described as "complicated." (Most likely achieved by a minimum of one week not washing it.) Probably tattooed. Maybe gay. Definitely cooler than you. ...Always denies being a hipster. Hates the word...... Has friends and/or self cut hair. Dyes it frequently (black, white-blonde, etc. and until scalp bleeds). Has a closet full of clothing but usually wears same three things OVER AND OVER (most likely very tight black pants, scarf, and ironic tee-shirt). Chips off nail polish artfully after $50 manicure. Sleeps with everyone and talks about it at great volume in crowded coffee shops. Addicted to coffee, cigarettes (Parliaments, Kamel Reds, Lucky Strikes, etc.), and possibly cocaine. Claims to be in a band. Rehearsals consist of choosing outfits for next show and drinking PBR....."
LOL - all I know is that I am seeing hipster fashion, home decor, accessories, art and more everywhere I look these days. Here are some of my faves:

Hipster Kiss by Daniel Hughes

Hipster Fashion Pins by Tea and Laundry

Hipster Print by Whale and Bee

Going Green

Found a glass head at the flea market this weekend and I have decided to turn it into a terrarium. After a quick how-to video courtesy of eHow.com, I started looking at some other terrariums for inspiration. It is amazing how many variations there are to fit into any decor, plus they are eco-friendly!

Below are some of my favorite terrariums:

Preston Bailey's tea part centerpiece terrarium utilizing fresh flowers on a glass cake stand
(as seen on Poetic Home)

Too adorable! The Fantasy Moss Terrarium by Betty's Fantasy.

Simple and beautiful - Monkeys Always Look's hanging terrarium is perfect for an apartment (although I might do a grouping of these in the kitchen at the house).

Nini Style showcased numerous terrarium decor options. My favorite is the large dome on the right.

Have you created your own terrarium? I'd love to see it!
